Sunday Sermon Summary – Jan 04 2026
The fullness of Jesus Christ
John 1: 10-18
We are gathered to celebrate the first Sunday of the year and it is also the second Sunday after Christmas. Today’s Gospel teaches us about the fullness of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
1. Full of Glory
John 1: 14, Matthew 17:22
The apostle John expresses the glory of Jesus. Jesus took three of His closest disciples to the top of a mountain and was transfigured before them. John was one of them. He saw the glory of Jesus and he testifies that Jesus’ glory was the glory equal to the Father. In the Gospel of John, we read in chapter 17, Jesus praying for His disciples just before he went to Gethsemane. He prayed to the Father and said that he was sharing His glory with His disciples. We, God’s people can share in the glory of Jesus Christ.
2. Full of Grace
John 1: 16, Hebrews 4:15
Jesus is fullness of grace. No human can get close to Jesus in His fullness of glory, so Jesus also is full of grace. We receive grace upon grace from Jesus. By His grace we are blessed beyond measure. Even in our weakness His grace is made perfect. Jesus’ grace gives us access into His glorious presence. We are immensely blessed to receive the grace of God. That is why every time in our benediction we say, “The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God the Father and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”
3. Full of Truth
John 1: 17
Finally, our Gospel reading teaches us that Jesus is the personification of Truth. He is full of grace and truth. Jesus claimed that he is the way the truth and the life. No body can go to the Father except through Jesus Christ. Because Jesus is the personification of truth, we can come into His presence without any hypocrisy. Jesus hates hypocrisy. He warned the Pharisees and scribes openly. He exposed their hypocrisy to the public. When we come to Jesus we come with our brokenness, with our shortcomings and weaknesses. We don’t need to pretend like we are holy. He knows our weaknesses. Jesus is our high priest who has gone through suffering and temptations; so Jesus will help us to live a holy life. Amen!
