Sunday Sermon Summary – Oct 12 2025
Double Blessing
Luke 17: 11-19
Today in our Gospel reading we heard the story of the healing of ten lepers. Jesus healed them on His way to Jerusalem as He was passing between Galilee and Samaria.
1. Revere
Luke 17:12
The foremost thing we observe here is the reverence the ten lepers showed to Jesus. They addressed Him as master, as a slave would address his master who owns him. We are reminded to be mindful of the awesomeness of our Lord. He is beyond imagination. His glory can never be fathomed. We give great respect to high officials. We must always revere our Lord. We know that our Lord is loving and His tender mercies never come to an end; but He is also a consuming fire. That is why we come into His presence with utmost reverence.
2. Return
Luke 17: 13, 14
All the ten lepers revered the words that Jesus spoke and were on their way to show themselves to the priest. As they were going, all of them were miraculously healed. Nine of them hurried to the priest; but only one man, a Samaritan left the nine and returned back to Jesus. He fell at His feet and thanked Jesus for the healing he just received. He did something he was not asked to do. On this Thanksgiving Sunday we are reminded from this passage that we must return to God every time we receive His blessings. Being thankful not only for big things; but also, for small things and for things we don’t even remember.
3. Rejoice
Luke 17: 15, 16, 19
Seeing the Samaritan, Jesus marvelled that the other nine did not show such gratitude. They were excited about their healing and went their way. Jesus turned towards the Samaritan and told that his faith has made him whole. The one man who returned to Jesus received a double blessing that day. Jesus told him that he is made complete; not just healing from his leprosy. When we go beck to our Lord with gratitude, He will give us more than we have asked for. The Samaritan has set an example for us to follow. On this thanksgiving Sunday, we renew our commitment to express gratitude to our Lord for all His blessings towards us and our family. Amen!
