Sunday Sermon Summary – Oct 05 2025
Lord, increase our Faith
Luke 17: 5-10
The twelve apostles came to Jesus with a request. They wanted Jesus to increase their faith. Our Lord taught them how they can increase their faith.
1. Amount
Luke 17: 6
The first thing Jesus taught them was that amount didn’t matter. Even faith as small as a mustard seed is enough! In the Gospel according to Matthew we read that the nine disciples at the foot of the mount of transfiguration were unable cast out a demon from a boy and they asked Jesus why they were unable to do it. Jesus gave the same answer to them. All they needed is faith as big as a mustard seed. “That amount of faith can uproot mountains” Jesus said. Then Jesus went on to explain how they needed to improve to move mountains.
2. Action
Luke 17: 8
Jesus gave them an analogy of a master and a servant. When a servant returns from a hard day of work, the master doesn’t tell him to sit and eat, on the contrary he will tell him to wear his apron and come and serve the master until he has eaten. Then the servant can go and eat. So to increase our faith we have to show our commitment to God in action. Though we are tired and exhausted after a long day’s work we must come to God and serve Him. We must do things that pleases God at all times. Our right actions will increase our faith.
3. Attitude
Luke 17: 10
Finally Jesus said that after we have done all our duties to the Lord, we cannot take any credit for our sincere work; but we must say, “I am an unworthy servant, I only did what I am supposed to do.” We must have the right attitude if we want to increase our faith. Our faith will prove strong when we have the right attitude. Our Lord sees our hearts. So what we think within our selves counts a lot. Then we will become a blessing wherever we go. Those who see us will know that we are people who are filled with faith.
May our Lord help us to increase our faith by our actions and attitudes. Amen
