LOVE DIVINE ALL LOVES EXCELLING – John 21: 15

Before His ascension Jesus revealed himself to His disciples multiple times. This was the last time Jesus revealed himself to seven disciples early in the morning.

1.  Love that comes after

John 21:4

The disciples led by Peter had fished all night but caught nothing.  They were returning to the shore with disappointment. Jesus stood on the shore early in the morning and asked if they caught anything; Jesus came after the disciples who had left their calling and vision to preach the Gospel. Our Lord went after them to bring them back to their calling.

The Bible reminds us that the righteous may fall multiple times but will rise up again. The Lord will not leave us even when we leave Him. He has promised that he will never leave us nor forsake us.

2.  Love that serves

John 21:12

When John identified that it was Jesus on the shore, he informed Peter. Peter immediately wore on his cloak and jumped into the sea. He swam to the shore to Jesus. He also helped to pull the miraculous catch of one hundred and thirty big fish. When they all came to shore Jesus already had bread and fish ready for them. Jesus did not chide them or admonish them for going back to their old trade that they forsook when Jesus called them to follow Him. He first served them to make them comfortable. They were tired and exhausted with no sleep throughout the night. Jesus refreshed them.

When we come back to God, He will be gracious to us and will refresh us.  We can always have a new beginning with our Lord.

3.  Love that calls for a response:

John 21:15

After they had eaten and were refreshed, Jesus asked Peter three times whether he loved him. Jesus gave Peter three commissions: Feed my lambs, tend my sheep and feed my sheep. Peter who denied Jesus thrice when he was taken for trial, now confessed three times that his love for Jesus was true. Jesus trusted Peter to be the leader and first archbishop of the first church. Peter’s confession of loyalty was genuine. So Jesus foretold him how he was going to be martyred for his faith.

Our Lord calls us to respond to his Love for us. Every follower of Jesus has a calling to fulfill. Amen!!
