Sunday Sermon Summary – June 22 2025
Echoes of Mercy, Whispers of Love
A TRANSFORMED LIFE
Luke 8: 26-39
In this passage we have the story about Jesus casting out many demons from one person in Gerasene, which is opposite to Galilee on the Eastern side of the Jorden.
1. Experience of Transformation
Luke 8: 35
“Sitting at the feet of Jesus and in right mind!”
The man who was possessed by demons lived in the tombs, without clothing and had lost his mind. But when the demons were casted out, he sat at the feet of Jesus in right mind and clothed. Everyone who claims to be a follower of Jesus Christ must have an experience of transformation. Our Lord has brought us from darkness into His marvellous light that we may declare His praise. Jesus came to give us new life. The experience of new life is an ongoing experience.
2. Expectations of Transformation
Luke 8:38
“Begged Jesus that he might go with Him.”
The pig herds saw the man who was healed and were amazed. They informed the whole city and everyone was afraid. They pleaded with Jesus to leave. When Jesus was preparing to leave, the healed man came up to Jesus and begged him that he too would leave with Jesus; but Jesus refused to take him with him. Very often we wish to stay in the embrace of the Lord and be pampered. The church can become a place where parishioners want to be pampered all the time. The early church was not like that; they encouraged everyone to be useful in the church in some way or the other. The Church is not a monument, it is a movement where everyone involves in making progress.
3. Example of Transformation
Luke 8: 39
“Return to your house and tell what great things God has done for you.”
Jesus gave the healed man a big responsibility. Jesus commanded him to go to his house and tell everyone what great things God had done for him. The man accepted the command; the Bible says that he went throughout the city proclaiming what Jesus had done for him. He knew Jesus for a very short while yet he became an effective evangelist throughout Decapolis. We have a command from God to be instrumental in changing peoples lives. May we accept God’s call to impact people and bring them into God’s kingdom. Amen
