Sunday Sermon Summary – March 10 2024

Posted on: March 12th, 2024 by St. Bede Anglican Church

JUST AS MOSES LIFTED UP THE SERPENT IN THE WILDERNESS

Numbers 21: 4-9   John 3: 14-21

Jesus spoke to Nicodemus and said that just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness; the son of man will be lifted up that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.

1.  He who is crucified is a criminal

Our Lord Jesus Christ is our eternal sacrifice to save us from the punishment of sin.  So He was sacrificed as a criminal.  Only the worst criminals were hanged on the cross.  Other executions were stoning and beheading.  Jesus became sin for us.  So He took the worst punishment for our sins.   Everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.  Everyone who believes in Him will never perish.  Everyone who believes in Him will not be condemned.

2.  He who is crucified is cursed
Galatians 3:13
It was considered that everyone who was crucified was a cursed person.  The scripture says that everyone who is hanged on the tree is cursed. Galatians 3:13 The convicted person will have to carry his cross to the place of execution.  Jesus carried His cross and took on himself the form of a cursed person.  The chastisement of our peace was on Him. He bore our sorrows. So we are set free from all curses.  Nothing can stop God’s blessings on us and our families. All our curses are crucified on the cross.  By His stripes we are healed.

3.  He who is crucified is the never Celebrated

Deuteronomy 21:23

The convict is usually allowed to die on the cross.

When he has died they remove the body and throw it in a mass grave. No record of such convicts is kept. They will be forgotten. But Jesus who was lifted up as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, will be remembered forever.  He will never be forgotten because He rose again from the dead. He will return to judge the living and the dead. There is no end to His reign.  His church will proclaim the Gospel until He returns.  The cross is a sign of God’s grace and love towards us. The message of the cross is foolish to those who are perishing; but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God.  We will cling to the Old Rugged Cross.  Amen
