Three days of Epiphany
John 1: 29 – 42

The Gospel of John explains in detail the happenings soon after Jesus was victorious after He was tempted for forty days.  John’s Gospel does not mention the forty days of fasting and temptations though.

1.  Day 1.  Messiah is Revealed
John 1: 29

The Bible says that the next day John the Baptist saw Jesus standing in the crowd and he said, “There is one standing among you whom you don’t know.”   John revealed that Jesus is the Messiah. He also went on to say that he didn’t know that Jesus is the Christ; but God, who sent him to baptize, told him that the one on whom the Holy Spirit comes in the form of a dove and abides is the Christ the anointed one.  We, God’s people are blessed to know that Jesus is the Christ. This revelation is a blessing to us. We were in darkness and Jesus was revealed to us. This gives us great excitement more than anything else.

2.  Day 2.  Messiah is Recognized
John 1: 35

Again in verse thirty five scripture says that the next day John saw Jesus walking at a distance and said, “The Lamb of God”.  Two of John’s disciples who heard him say that immediately went and followed Jesus.  One of them was Andrew the brother of Peter.  Jesus turned and looked at them and asked, “What are you looking for?”   They addressed Jesus as Rabbi and asked, “Where do you stay?”   Jesus answered, “Come and see”.  They followed Jesus and stayed with Him that afternoon.  On returning, Andrew straight away told his brother Simon, “We have seen the Messiah”.  When we draw closer to Jesus, we see more of His deity.  He is the Lamb who takes away the sin of the world. The first Adam sinned and brought death into the world. The second Adam, Jesus was tempted in every way but did not sin;  so He brought life to the world.

3.  Day 3.  Messiah is Revered
John 1: 43

The third time the apostle John mentions that the next day Nathaniel came to see Jesus. He was astounded when Jesus told him that He saw him before his brother met him when he sat under the fig tree. He addressed Jesus as Lord and King. Jesus told him that now onward he will see angels descending on the Son of man. When we draw close to our Lord, we will see Him in His glory and will worship Him in spirit and in truth.  Our Lord is loving and caring; He is also a consuming fire.  We come before Him in reverence from our heart and we are prepared to do anything for Him. The revelation of our Lord’s splendor must lead us to revere Him at all times.  Amen!
