The Grandeur of the Reign of Christ

Luke 1: 68 – 79

Today is the last Sunday of Pentecost.  We celebrate the Reign of Christ!

1.  Prophesied by Holy Prophets

Luke 1: 70

The reign of Christ was prophesied by the holy prophets right from the beginning.  God himself foretold it in Genesis 3:15 that Satan’s head will be bruised.  Even Enoch, the seventh from Adam prophesied that our Lord will come to judge the world with thousands of His angels. Jude verse 14. Right through the Old Testament we read every prophet foretelling the advent of our Lord.

2.  Promised to Abraham

Luke 1: 73

Secondly, God’s Word states that the reign of Christ was promised to our patriarch Abraham. Abraham believed the promise of God; so it was counted righteousness to him. Abraham was obedient to the extent of being willing to sacrifice his one and only beloved son according to God’s command.  Genesis 22: 18 God promised Abraham that through him all the nations will be blessed.  The Bible teaches us that we are partakers of all the promises given to Abraham. Everyone who believes in our Lord will inherit the promises of God.  God kept His promise to Abraham.

3.  Prepared by John the Baptist

Luke 1: 76

Finally, our scripture passage teaches us that the grandeur of our Lord’s advent was prepared.  God prepared a forerunner of His advent. It was none other than John the Baptist who was Jesus’ cousin.  John said that there is one coming after him whose sandals he is unworthy to untie. John also mentioned that he is baptizing with water; but Jesus will baptize us with fire and the Holy Spirit. The first advent of our Lord confirms that there is going to be a second advent.  Jesus’ second coming was foretold by two angels to the eleven disciples who witnessed His ascension.  It will be a glorious day when Christ will return to judge the living and the dead.  We, who know the Lord must prepare many others for the return of Christ.  Amen
