Winning Strategies

Jeremiah 2: 4-13

Our Lord calls His people to live in victory. The Church is destined for victory. In the prophetic book of Jeremiah our Lord continuously invites His people to choose victory over defeat.

1. Refuge: Jeremiah 2: 6 & 7

In the above verse God reminds His people how He brought them through the wilderness; a path no one has travelled and led them into the promised land. Each of us is unique and God has led us in a unique way to fulfill His purpose for us. God has a unique plan for each of us. So, as winners we just have to take refuge under His wings.  We have no better place than being in the centre of God’s plan for us.

2. Return:  Jeremiah 2: 11

God reminded the Israelites to return to Him. God invites us with open arms to return to His love. If we sin against God even by just a sinful thought; we must return to God with a contrite spirit. That is why in the Anglican Communion we invite the congregation to confess their sins before they come to the table for Holy Communion. No matter how many times we move away from God, we must keep coming back to God and seek refuge in His arms. Real winners are those who don’t hesitate to begin all over again.

  3.  Rest:  Jeremiah 2: 13

In this verse we see the third point of winning strategy; when God says that His people have committed two acts. They forgot their God who is the Living Water, and they went after worthless things. Anything outside of God is worthless. Our God is always more than sufficient for us. We need to give God priority in everything. When we have trusted in God with all our heart; we can be restful in Him.  In quietness and in confidence shall be our strength. Tomorrow, we begin a new month. As we continue our journey into September, God reminds us that even when the going is difficult, we can trust in our God’s protection and be restful. Amen
