Inheriting the Kingdom

Luke 12: 32-40

Our Lord taught us that the kingdom is His. The early apostles gladly lay down their lives for the kingdom of God. In today’s scripture reading we see three main things about the kingdom of God.

1. Your Father’s good pleasure      :  Prioritize – Luke 12: 32

Jesus addressed his disciples as little flock. Jesus said, “Do not fear little flock for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.  Jesus taught us to seek first of all the kingdom of God. He said that all other things will be added to us. When Jesus taught His disciples to pray he mentioned about the kingdom in the beginning and the end of the prayer which we call the Lord’s Prayer. We have a long list of priorities in life; in that list God’s kingdom must be the top most priority. When we have God’s kingdom as priority then we will be the little flock who inherits the kingdom.

2.  Gird yourself  : Power Luke 12: 35

The second thing out Lord taught us is to have our loins girded.  That means to have strength and power at all times. We are the remnant church. We are the little flock; this is not a huge flock.  Census may show huge numbers of Christians. But all of them are not of the little flock. Jesus said that the way is narrow and only few go through it who will eventually inherit the kingdom. True Christians are those who are humble and gentle yet brave and strong.  They do not give up; they do dot fear. The early apostles have set an example for us to follow.

3.  Lamp burning : Prepared Luke 12:35

Finally Jesus said that our light should be burning. We must be the light to everyone around us. Many times we worry about people who defame Christianity.  We don’t need to worry about them. All we need to do is to reflect the light of Jesus. Jesus said that not everyone who calls Him Lord..Lord will enter the kingdom of God. Only those who do the will of the Father will inherit His Kingdom.  Only few will inherit the kingdom of God. We are the remnant church who are purged and who walk in the ways of Jesus Christ. When we shine for Jesus we will gravitate people towards God.

May our Lord help us to have our priorities right, to be strong in our faith and to shine for him and be the faithful followers who are the little flock. Amen!
