Sunday Sermon Summary – March 02 2025
CHOSEN FOR GLORY
Luke 9: 28-36
This week we remembered the Transfiguration of our Lord. Only three disciples; Peter, John and James had the privilege of witnessing His transfiguration.
1. They were heavy with sleep
Luke 9: 32
The Bible says that the Lord led Peter, James and John to a high mountain. (Matthew 17:1) They went up the mountain to pray but the disciples were heavy with sleep. God does not choose us because we are the most holy people. God has chosen us because of the finished work of Jesus Christ. We are cleansed by his blood, and we are covered by the righteousness of God. God knows our infirmities. Nevertheless, he chooses us because he knows our thoughts and intentions.
2. They did not know what they were saying
Luke 9: 33
When Peter saw Moses and Elijah talking with Jesus about his crucifixion which was to take place shortly, he spoke about making tents for Moses, Elijah and Jesus. Peter was known for speaking even without thinking. He spoke out of turn trying to admonish Jesus when he was talking to his disciples about his crucifixion. Peter is known for speaking out of turn. But God chose him to be close to him. He was transformed into a powerful person that people brought the sick for Peter’s shadow to fall on them. (Acts 5:15) The Lord chooses you for glory. He will transform you according to his purpose for you.
3. They were afraid
Luke 9: 34
The Bible says that a cloud overshadowed them during the transfiguration and the three disciples were very afraid. These three disciples were special to Jesus. Jesus kept them close to him even when he went to the garden of Gethsemane. But these disciples were afraid. God chooses us not because we are the strongest people. God chooses us to use us to break the pride of the strong. When we are weak; then we are strong. God chooses us and transforms us into the person he wants us to be.
May God help us to wait in his presence to be chosen to shine for him. Amen
