Sunday Sermon Summary – March 24 2024

Posted on: March 28th, 2024 by St. Bede Anglican Church

Behold your King is coming:

Zechariah 9.9

This is a profound prophecy of the triumphal entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem.  This verse explains the triumphant king.

1. Sufficient – righteous

The prophetic verse calls the Church to rejoice over her king because he is righteous.  We are citizens of his kingdom not subjects.  Everyone is treated equally and fairly.  There is no discrimination in God’s kingdom.  Our God is king and he is a righteous king.  He calls all his followers to be righteous.  He knows that none of us can live up to his righteousness so he has made a provision of forgiveness of sin.

2.  Saviour – Saves

Our Lord is king over His church. He will save us from every foe.  We are not his subjects; we are citizens in his kingdom. He is mighty to save.  He not only saves us from the punishment of sin; he also saves us from the power of sin. Jesus Saves!!

So his church will always go from victory to victory. The early church worshiped in caves and catacombs but in about 300 years, Christianity became the world’s greatest religion. The Gospel began to spread throughout the world.

3.  Serves- He is humble (humility vs meekness) Our almighty Saviour comes to us in humility.  He is a king who serves his citizens.  He said that he came not to be served, but to serve. He has set an example to the church to follow.  Humility is the outward expression of meekness.  It is meekness in action.  Our Lord even washed the feet of his disciples.  We are called to serve one another in humility.  The church is a sanctuary where God’s people gather to worship and express humility.

May our Lord help us to follow our king until he returns in glory. Amen
