The Church longs for the Second Advent

Isaiah 64: 1-9

This prophetic passage reveals a longing of God’s people for God’s second advent.  At least three main reasons for this longing are revealed.

1.  Christ will come with Revenge

Isaiah 64:2

Our Lord will come to avenge his true followers. Over 2000 years the church has gone through tough situations.  Thousands of Christians have been tortured for Christ.  When Jesus returns, He will pour out his fury on everyone who were against the Gospel of Christ.

Jesus taught us to show the other cheek, He taught us give away our garment if someone asks for our cloak and He instructed us to walk the second mile.  Nevertheless, when Christ returns the Church will be glorious. God’s power will be revealed to all people. Every knee will bow down before Jesus Christ.  Therefore, the Church longs for the Second Advent.  Rev. 6:10 explains that our Lord is waiting to avenge his martyrs.

2. Christ will come with Reward

Isaiah 64:4

This passage teaches us that when Christ returns the reward that comes with Him for his followers is unimaginable.  No eye has seen, no ear has heard what God has in store for those who wait for Him.  Christ’s return will be glorious for His disciples.  It will be awesome and surprising.  It will be beyond our minds can imagine.

1 Corinthians 2:9 emphasis this glorious experience we will have when our Lord returns.

3. Christ will come with Rejoicing

Isaiah 64:5

Scripture teaches that Christ will rejoice over his people.  When Christ returns, he will be delighted to reveal himself to His Church.  There will be a great reunion.  There will not be time; only eternity.  Everlasting joy will be ours when Christ returns the second time.  That will be the culmination of the Church.  The Church will be reunited with her Saviour.  No more tears, no more sorrow.

May we wait for our Lord’s second Advent as we celebrate His first Advent in Bethlehem.  Amen
