Advent begins – Arise and shine!

Posted on: November 30th, 2019 by St. Bede Anglican Church

Join us for our Advent worship series, Arise and Shine.

Each week will focus on a different aspect of the light of Christ and how we are enlightened by him throughout our lives. In our worship for the first week in Advent we will celebrate the rising light as we wait for Christ to come into the world.

Advent is a season in the church where in contrast to the hustle and bustle of the world around us in preparation for Christmas, Christians are invited into a time of spiritual preparation and reflection about what it means to welcome God into the world and our lives, and to pray for Christ to come again.

To reflect the theme and season you will note some changes in our liturgy this season.

On Sundays in advent we will try to reflect that by slowing down and starting our services off quietly and taking time for quiet reflective prayer.

We will say together the Kyrie Elesion together – an ancient prayer both of confession and joy, in recognition that it is God alone, who is merciful.

We also will be introducing an expanded servers guild this season – with the hopes of building this up in the coming months with some of our youth.
Thus will include the use of torches – perfect for our light theme, and bells during the Eucharistic prayer to keep us attuned to the key elements of this central prayer.

It is my prayer that these small changes will shake us out of our routines and draw us closure to God this season as we begin to anticipate his arrival then as a baby, now in his work among us, and to come again in glory.
