Reign of Christ – Last Days

It is with much appreciation that I write my last email to you all.  This coming Sunday will be my last Sunday at the church of St. Bede.  I have grown and learnt so much from you all.  It has been a delight to serve you.  

When I leave on Sunday I will carry your friendship and love in my heart, strengthened by your prayers for me.  However once I leave according to the diocesan mandates  I will no longer be able to function as your pastor and will only be able to come back at the invitation of my successor.  Any and all pastoral, liturgical or administrative concerns after Sunday should be directed to the wardens – Gg or Sangeetha, and in due time the interim priest. 

I leave on the Feast of Christ the King – the end of our liturgical year together.  It is a time when we remember that Christ reigns over all the earth.  During the American election one could find this sign on facebook and church notice boards:  “No matter who becomes President – Jesus is still King”.  The same holds true with any pastor.  Above all – Jesus reigns regardless of who is in charge on earth.  

As we reflect on that, we also remember that as King of heaven and earth, Jesus has empowered us by his Holy Spirit.  As 1 Peter declares “you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people”.  We each have been given gifts and talents to use to advance Christ’s Kingdom and strengthen His holy church. 

St. Bede’s is filled with people who possess a wide diversity of gifts and talents.  Continue to use the gifts God has given you and keep strong in your faith.  You are God’s holy people.
