Palm Sunday Sermon Summary – April 13 2025
Worship the King with Palm Leaves
Luke 19: 28-40
The Holy Bible teaches us the significance of Palm leaves. The church celebrates Palm Sunday every year with Palm leaves and rejoicing.
1. It is prophetic fulfillment
Zechariah 9: 9. Leviticus 23:40
In the Pentateuch the Lord commanded the Israelites to live in booths in remembrance of their slavery in Egypt. Then they were to celebrate victory with Palm leaves. God instituted this to point to Jesus Christ who will come to deliver His people from slavery to victory. God had a bigger message for his followers when he instituted the sacrifice of waving Palm leaves. The whole point is that there is an eternal meaning to celebrating with Palms.
2. It is Dignity and Glory
1 Kings 6: 29, 1 Kings 7: 36
These two Bible verses state that when king Solomon covered the inner court of the temple with sheets of gold he carved palm leaves in them. The inner court portraits golden palm leaves. So palm leaves was an expression of dignity and glory to the Israelites. This was a foretaste of the glory we will enjoy in the kingdom of God. The Lord is ruler over every nation and the glory of God’s people is to follow God with liberty and celebration. We celebrate for who God is and what we are in Him. We celebrate because we have experienced God’s goodness.
3. All the saints will rejoice with Palms
Revelations 7:9
This scripture verse is profound. It speaks about innumerable saints of all nations and tribes in heaven who will rejoice with Palm Leaves in their hands when they meet together in God’s holy presence. Jesus showed us a foretaste of rejoicing with palms. God commanded to celebrate with Palm leaves to remind us that there will be the same rejoicing in heaven. Having a relationship with God is to celebrate who God is and what we are in him. That gives us the grace to rejoice in all situations.
May our Lord help us to rejoice in all situations because Jesus is King of kings and Lord of lords.
Amen!
