Go and tell the Good News  – Easter Sunday Sermon Summary – March 31 2024

Mark 16: 7

The Holy Bible teaches us that three women went to the tomb early Sunday morning.  They were wondering how to remove the stone that covered the tomb; but when they reached the tomb they were amazed that the stone was already removed and thrown away.  They also saw an angel sitting on the tomb who informed them that Jesus was alive as He had promised. The angel also gave them instructions to convey to the disciples.

1. Tell His disciples

The angel said, “Go and tell the disciples that He is alive.  The angel did not ask them to go to the chief priest or scribes.  He asked them to go to the disciples.  In the book of Acts, chapter ten, we read that Peter was preaching in the house of Cornelius and he said that the news of the resurrection of Jesus Christ was given to the disciples and not to everyone else because they were the chosen ones to declare the resurrection to the whole world. (Acts 10:40-42) Today our Lord sends us into the world to declare the resurrection of Christ and to preach the good news of eternal life through Him.

2. Tell Peter:  The angel added to the women to inform Peter about the resurrection.  Special mention is made about Peter.  Peter denied Jesus three times on the night that He was betrayed by Judas Iscariot.  He was afraid of being arrested with Jesus; but later he cried bitterly.  He repented for his failure and was in guilt.  The angel informed the women to inform Peter. When we are afraid and turn away from our Lord, He does not leave us. He comes after us. He knows our weaknesses and he strengthens us.  In our weakness His strength is made perfect.

3.  Jesus will meet you in Galilee: Our Lord had promised His disciples that he would meet them in Galilee.  The angel of the Lord gave the same information to the three women. Jesus comes after His disciples to encourage them because they are the ones who were going to take the Gospel to the world.  The disciples were encouraged by Jesus after his resurrection multiple times and He taught them to be witnesses of the truth. These disciples in turn taught others and the Gospel has been preached for over two thousand years. Jesus comes after you to make you a powerful witness of His resurrection. May we be filled by His resurrected power and spread the good news to the world.  Amen
