Sunday Sermon Summary – Mar 29 2026
The Purpose of the Triumphant Entry
Matthew 21: 1 – 15
Our Lord walked into Jerusalem on a donkey. There was a huge crowd following Him. They were praising God and glorifying Jesus who comes in the name of the Lord. They acknowledged that Jesus is the descendant of king David.
1. Proclaim
God for us Matthew 21: 2
Jesus arranged to ride on the donkey to proclaim that He is King. He commanded two of His disciples to go to the village that was opposite and find the donkey and its colt and bring them to Him. He even told the disciples that if anyone asks you why you are untying them, tell them that the Lord needed them. It was just a few days to the jubilee Passover. Jerusalem was crowded with people from all over the neighbouring countries. Jesus sat on the donkey to proclaim that He is King. Jesus is the eternal King. Therefore, we live with confidence even when we face tough situations. He will fight our battles.
2. prophecy
God with us Matthew 21: 4, 5
The Lord did this to fulfill the prophecy about the Messiah. The messiah will process on a donkey. From His virgin birth, until He died on the cross and resurrected on the third day Jesus fulfilled every prophecy about the Messiah. Jesus has promised to fulfill the prophecy of the Messiah’s return again to judge the living and the dead. Because Jesus has fulfilled all prophecies, He declared it during His triumphant entry into Jerusalem. Jesus is the only Messiah. There is none beside Him. Therefore, all His promises are true. We can count on every promise that Jesus has made to His followers.
3. Prepare
God in us Matthew 21: 46
The triumphant entry of Jesus set the stage for His crucifixion. The day Jesus went in procession into Jerusalem and cleansed the temple, the religious leaders determined to kill Him. They became so furious with Him that they were willing to do anything to get rid of Him at the earliest. As Jesus chose to ride triumphantly, He also was prepared to be crucified in a few days. The triumphant entry has an eternal meaning to us. It is about preparing us for eternal life. The crowd was excited to see Jesus and they celebrated; but Jesus was preparing Himself for the ultimate purpose of His incarnation.
The triumphant entry of Jesus calls our attention to rejoice over the eternal life that awaits us. Amen
