Sunday Sermon Summary – Jan 19 2025
Being a Channel of Blessing
John 2: 1-11
In this well-known story about Jesus turning water into wine in the city of Cana, we see the involvement of Mary who was instrumental in Jesus’ first miracle that propelled the disciples to believe in Him.
1. Be Present
John 2: 1
Mary was always present whenever she was needed. She always supported the ministry of Jesus Christ. She was present at His first miracle. She was present at His crucifixion, and she was present with the 120 people who were praying on the morning of Pentecost. Mary was supportive to her family and to all who loved the Lord.
When our friends or relatives face adversity, they must know that we are present for them. They must know that they can count on us to give them comfort and the right counsel.
2. Be positive
John 2: 3
When Mary realized that the family was running out of wine, she right away informed Jesus. Running short of wine in a wedding will be an insult to the family. It will be talked about for a long time. The hosts would have been stressed about it. Mary was positive; she knew she must inform Jesus. Jesus had never performed any miracle before this. This was going to be his first miracle.
God encourages us to always know that we must go to Jesus when we face adversity. Proverbs 18:10 says that the Name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and they are safe. God is our only refuge at all times.
3. Be Productive
John 2: 5
Mary was also productive. When Jesus told her that His time has not yet come; she immediately went to the servants and told them to do whatever Jesus tells them. This is the Gospel according to Mary. We must do whatever Jesus tells us to do even if it makes little sense. The servants obeyed Mary’s orders and so there was an amazing miracle in the wedding house.
Our Lord is always the same, He will work miracles for us and make us a blessing to many around us.
Many of us would have received blessings of “mercy drops”; but today we are reminded that we can expect “showed of blessings” and be a channel of blessing to many. Amen!
