The Shining Light of God –Isaiah 60: 1-6

God speaks through his prophet Isaiah and reveals his kindness and compassion for his people.

1. God’s shining light dispels darkness

Isaiah 60:2

When darkness covers all nations, light will shine upon God’s people. Light dispels darkness.  When we have God’s light for us, we will have God’s direction.  People who are in darkness will not know the way. They will not have any sense of direction.

We see evidence of this in every nation. People are groping for truth and direction and are disappointed by false leaders. God’s people have God’s Spirit in them to guide them even through tough times.

2. God’s shining light gives radiance

Isaiah 60: 5

God also promises that He will shine His light upon his people and they will be radiant.  Everyone who sees us will see that we are guided by God’s counsel.  When darkness surrounds the earth, we will be the light pointing to God’s love and compassion for this world. We are like stars in the night that shine bright.  The wisemen saw the star that they saw in the East and followed it to the house where Jesus was.

3. God’s shining light brings glory to God

Isaiah 60: 6

Every blessing that we receive must bring glory to our Lord. God must be glorified through our good times and bad times.  We must be mindful to give God glory whenever we receive a blessing.  We must teach our children and grandchildren to thank the Lord for all good things received. We can do nothing without Him.

As we journey through this New Year, may we receive God’s guidance each day, shine for God and give Him all the glory and honor; for He alone is worthy of praise and worship. Amen
