Sunday Sermon Summary – Dec 01 2024
The Kingdom of God is near
Luke 21: 25-36
Jesus clearly explained the signs of the last days. His teachings created curiosity in his disciples. Jesus also encouraged them during his discourse.
1. Courage – Luke 21: 28
Jesus spoke about the signs in the sky and on the earth in the last days. Then he told his disciples that when they see these signs, they must be bold and have their heads lifted up because their redemption will be near. God encourages his people to be bold when they hear bad news. They must be courageous because God destines everything. God will make everything good for those who love him and are called according to his purpose. When our situations tend to cause panic; we will be bold because we know who we have believed.
2. Confidence – Luke 21: 31, 33
After Jesus encouraged his disciples to have courage, he called them to live in confidence. Our confidence is not in our jobs or health or the people around us. Jesus calls us to have confidence in His Word. Jesus said that heaven and earth will pass away, but his Word will not pass away. We live in confidence because we trust in the Word of God. God’s Word is sharper than any two edged sword. It will divide between the joints and the marrow, the soul and the spirit. Jesus said that the words he speaks are spirit and life. We live each day by trusting in God’s word.
3. Commitment – Luke 21: 36
As Jesus was concluding his teaching, he called his disciples to pray. He said that they must pray fervently that they may be counted worthy to be among the blessed ones. All that the Holy Bible says will come true. There is a last day when Christ will return as he has promised. Jesus wants all his followers to be ready for his return. One way to be ready is to be prayerful. We need to watch and pray. We must pray for people who are going through suffering. We must pray for the salvation of our friends and relatives. When we continue in prayer, we will feel the heart of God.
May our Lord help us to be courageous, confident and prayerful. Amen!
