Sunday Sermon Summary – Nov 26 2023

Posted on: November 29th, 2023 by St. Bede Anglican Church

The Reign of Christ

Our Lord will reign forever!  His kingdom has no end.  Nevertheless, now we do not see the power of Reign. But Jesus promised that He will come back again in glory.

1.  Wait for Him    Matthew 25: 1-13
In the first part of this chapter, Jesus spoke about the ten Virgins. Five were wise and five were unwise.  The wise virgins had oil in their lamps.

The Holy Spirit is compared to Oil, Fire and Water.

The wise virgins had oil in their lamps.  Our Lord Jesus Christ calls His Church to be alert by being filled with the Holy Spirit.  The only evidence of being filled with His Holy Spirit is having the Fruit of the Spirit.  There are nine gifts of the Spirit; but the only evidence of a spirit filled life is display of the Fruit of the Spirit as seen in Galatians 5:22 & 22.

2.  Work for Him.  Matthew 25: 14-30
The second part of the chapter talks about the talents.  Everyone one is required to give a report of what was given to them.  Those who made good use of their talents will receive great rewards.  They will also receive surprise rewards when the master will take the talents that were given to others who are lazy and will give them to the faithful people. God calls us to be careful about the talents we have received.  We must increase what is given to us.

3.  Walk with Him   Matthew 25: 31: 46
The third part of the chapter contains the parable of the Lord who will separate the goats from the sheep.  Jesus said that in the last day He will sit on His throne of glory and all peoples will be gathered before Him.  He will separate them on either side and will commend those who showed mercy towards those who are naked, hungry, lonely and imprisoned.  He will tell those merciful people that whatever they did to the needy people; they did to Jesus.  Walking with Jesus is to be sensitive to His voice and fulfill His desire in showing mercy to others.

May our Lord grant us the grace to persevere towards waiting for Jesus, working for Jesus and walking with Jesus.  Amen!
