This Sunday – Vestry and our upcoming Lenten Season
Lots of exciting things are happening at St. Bede’s coming up.
This Sunday is vestry Sunday with a combined 10:30 service. After the service lunch will be provided and we will meet for our annual meeting to review the past year in the church and look forward together by selecting new leaders and passing our budget for the year. Please plan on attending. Your voice is important. The report will be emailed separately for you to review prior to the meeting.
In the service, we will mark the end of our Epiphany season celebrating the Transfiguration of our Lord. We have been proclaiming that Jesus is the light of the world made manifest and this Sunday we will hear about Jesus literally becoming light at the midpoint in his ministry. Coming from this experience Jesus will begin his walk towards the cross.
Walking with Jesus towards the cross is what Lent is all about.
We will start our Lenten season on Wednesday with a 7:30pm Ash Wednesday service.
Lenten Scripture challenge: To mark the season of Lent I wish to challenge everyone to read the book of Matthew. A lenten devotional book on Matthew by N.T. Wright will accompany the study and can be purchased for $20 available for pick up on Ash Wednesday. Please let me know if you are interested. Alternatively you can read the gospel on your own – From Ash Wednesday to Sunday we will read Matthew 1-4.
Lenten Parish wide Bible Study: As a precursor to some small groups starting, this Lent we will have a parish wide evening Bible Study at the church on Wednesday evenings at 7:30pm available also remotely by Skype. More details to follow.
I look forward to seeing you on Sunday,
