Embracing Transitions

Exodus 16: 2-15

When everything moves well, we never want any change.  When things change it causes us to feel insecure and weak; but God’s Word in Exodus and Deuteronomy teaches us why God brings transitions in our lives and in our families.

To Test – Deuteronomy 8:2

The above verse clearly indicates that the Lord allows transitions to test us.  The Lord frequently tests His faithful people that they may grow stronger.  The Lord tested Abraham when he commanded him to sacrifice his most beloved son Isaac as a burnt offering on Mount Moriah. It would have grieved Abraham a lot. Nevertheless, he implicitly obeyed God early next morning.  He rode three days with his son Isaac and climbed Mount Moriah. Just as he reached out to sacrifice his son, the Lord stopped him and blessed him with wealth and long life. Job said that when he is tested, he will come out as gold.  Any test will be painful; but it will be a blessing.  The Lord allows transitions in our lives and in our family to test us so we will prove to be strong.

To Teach -Deuteronomy 8:3

This verse tells us that God allows transitions to teach us.  God teaches us through transitions in our life that we can count on Him in every situation.  Every new experience is a new lesson from God. God allowed Job to go through a path he has never been before. The Lord wanted to teach the children of Israel that they must trust in His Grace and be prepared to accomplish the things God had in store for them. When we go through transitions, we may feel uncomfortable and sometimes it is even painful. But through all of our transitions our Lord is teaching us precious lessons.

To Transform – Deuteronomy 8:7

Finally, we understand that God was preparing the children of Israel to transform them into a great nation. They were complaining about the food.  They said that they miss the garlics and herbs they had in Egypt.  They were even willing to be slaves again to be able to have the food they had in Egypt. What a shame!  The plan God had was to transform them into the greatest nation in the world, to make the world’s greatest kings out of them and eventually the Saviour of the world, Jesus Christ will be born in the tribe of Judah.  The Lord had the greatest plans for them when they were still having the slave’s mindset.  The Lord will take us or some of our family members through transitions to fulfill His great purpose.   We cannot even imagine what God has for our children and grandchildren.  Only our Lord knows, and He will fulfill it if we are willing to embrace the transitions; He brings across our lives.

Amen!
