Sunday Sermon Summary – Aug 16 2026

Shining in Darkness  
Genesis 45: 1-15 

As we met at the park for our morning service, we meditated on the last part of Joseph’s life.  He went through a series of challenges but finally he was honored to be the governor of the whole of Egypt.  
 
1. Accept:   

When Joseph was mercilessly sold to the traders as a slave, he would have been immensely afraid and deprived of his separation from his loving father. But we see that he just accepted the bitter reality he was in and lived in it. If we cannot accept the realities of our situations, we will be constantly murmuring.  When we keep on murmuring, we will lose the purpose God has for us. God is watching over all His children, and He knows how to reward us. Sometimes it is very difficult to accept the situation we are in.  It is not easy to say like Job did, “God gave, God took away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”  Nevertheless, when we grow in faith, we too can accept the experience God puts us in.  
 
2. Advance:   

Joseph was in a situation he was never expecting. He was now a slave in a new country, a new culture, new language..everything was new to him; but Joseph kept on advancing.  We read that he advanced to becoming the manager of all that Potiphar had. Such a promotion would not just happen. He would have learned the culture, the language and would have also proved his ability and skill to be able to govern.  Though he displayed integrity, he was thrown into prison.  Though he was in prison, he advanced to being a caretaker. The jailer trusted Joseph with all responsibilities. God wants to encourage us to keep advancing even when our situation is not favorable.  Joseph knew that God was with him and so he kept on advancing.  

3. Acknowledge:  

In our Gospel reading today we learned that Joseph acknowledged God in everything.  Joseph went through a lot of pain and suffering because his brothers sold him away as a slave.  He lost his father’s fellowship.  But God was with him and he was promoted as Governor of the greatest country in the world at that time.  Pharaoh said that Joseph will be the greatest in the country except for his throne. Joseph was made the lord of Pharaoh’s house.  God was with Joseph. The Bible says that God was with Joseph. Joseph knew it; so, when he revealed himself to his brothers, he did not repay them for their cruelty.  He said, “You intended evil, but God turned it for good.”  When we accomplish great things in life, we must always acknowledge that our Lord has done it for us. All we have and all we have accomplished is because of God’s mercy and favor.   

May our Lord enable us to accept the situation we are in, to accomplish the best we can and give God the glory for His favor.  Amen!
