Sunday Sermon Summary – July 26 2026
Hidden Treasure
Matthew 13: 44-52
In today’s Gospel reading we heard that Jesus spoke about the hidden value of the Kingdom of Heaven. Matthew chapter thirteen is the chapter of parables. It records seven parables that Jesus spoke. In today’s reading, we had three of the parables about the Kingdom of Heaven.
1. Qualify: Who
Matthew 13: 38
Children of the kingdom
Verse 38 says that the good plants are the children of the kingdom. The tares, the weeds are children of the enemy who is Satan. We understand that our Lord owns everything in the universe and He gives His blessings to whomever He chooses. One important qualification to receive God’s hidden treasure is to be His own people. The Lord is near those who call upon Him with all our heart. We qualify to receive from God’s abundant blessings by coming into God’s family and being His children.
2. Quest: Why
Matthew 13: 44
Nothing compares with if. Many people question why I must seek God so fervently when everything is going well for me. We need God and we must seek His favour to inherit the hidden treasures God has for His people. To be in the kingdom of heaven is more valuable than anything else. Jesus taught us that it is so precious like treasure hidden in the ground. It is like a precious pearl that one finds, and it is like a good fish that is caught in a dragnet. So, our quest above anything else must be to seek God’s kingdom. Jesus said that when we seek God’s kingdom and His righteousness everything else will be added to us.
3. Question: How
Matthew 13:52
Bring out treasure old and new. Jesus gave an excellent insight into how we can receive God’s hidden treasure. Jesus said that a scribe well trained about God’s kingdom is like a businessman who brings out the old and the new. We who are faithful stewards must be like a smart trader who brings out the old and the new. Many churches, in pursuit of increasing their congregation, have thrown away the old traditions and values of the church. They think that they must keep on doing something new. We must hold on to our old values. They are time tested. We must also find new and effective ways to communicate without diluting the truth of God’s Word. Amen
