“If all is well, why am I like this” 

Accepting God’s purpose  

Genesis 25:22 

Isaac was married to Rebecca when he was forty years old.  He found great joy in Rebecca, and he was eased of his grief over his mother’s death.  Nevertheless, even after many years they had no children. This must have troubled them a lot.  This passage reaches us how we must accept God’s purpose for us and our family.  

1. Accept God’s timing  

Genesis 25: 21 

They waited for twenty long years before Rebecca was pregnant.  We may have our plans and strategies for our future; but sometimes God has a different purpose, and He wishes to fulfill His purpose for us. One important lesson God teases us is to wait for His timing. Sometimes God makes us wait to test our perseverance.  Waiting for God’s timing is an expression of our trust in His purpose for us.  

2. Ask God’s favor  

Genesis 25:21 

After waiting for twenty long years, Isaac prayed for his wife Rebecca to conceive. God heard his prayer and Rebecca conceived. God’s word teaches us in several places that we must pray. There are many examples of God’s people who prayed fervently and received God’s blessings. In Luke 18 Jesus told a parable of a widow who went every day to the judge asking for justice against those who were persecuting her. Jesus said that though he did not listen to her; because she came to him every day and asked for justice, he quickly did justice for her.  In verse 8 Jesus asks, if there will be faith when the Son of man returns.  That means that as we get closer to Christ’s return, there will be lesser faith among people. So, we, God’s people must be firm in our faith.  

3. Allow God’s blessing 

Genesis 25:22 

Rebecca was worried because she felt something different in her pregnancy. She was confused and she said, “If all is well why am I like this?” So, she inquired the Lord about it. The Lord revealed to her that two great nations were in her womb. God also told her that the younger will be stronger than the older.  Many times, we may not fully understand God’s purpose, but God wants us to accept His ways wholeheartedly.  God has promised us that His ways are much higher than our ways. As the heavens are higher than the earth so is God’s ways above ours.  It is always a blessing when we allow God to have His way in our lives.  

May our Lord grant us the strength and faith to accept God’s timing, to ask God’s favor and to allow God’s blessings in our lives.   Amen
