Perspectives of our Inheritance  

Genesis 24: 50-58 

Abraham trusted his faithful servant to find a suitable bride for his son Isaac from his own people. The servant was himself like a son to Abraham. We see three strong traits of perspectives through the pursuit of inheritance in Abraham’s servant.  

Integrity Genesis 24: 10 

The Bible says that Abraham’s servant took ten camels, jewelry of silver and gold and started off to find a suitable bride for his master’s son. The task was big. He didn’t know what to expect. He was traveling to a place he probably had never been before. He showed a deep sense of integrity. One important thing we learn from this passage is that if we want to inherit what God has in store for us, we must first inherit integrity. The Lord sees our heart; He doesn’t see as people see us. So, when God sees our integrity, He opens up the door for our inheritance. We can receive everything that God has in store for us by living in integrity. We are encouraged to hold on to our integrity at all times and all situations.  

Intercession Genesis 24:12 

The servant travelled a long distance of about 750 kilometers to reach his destination. He reached the town of the Chadians in the dusk of the day.  The Bible says that the servant prayed to God. He called on the God of Abraham and pleaded that his journey must be successful.  Abraham had already told him that the angel of the Lord would go before him.  The servant displayed absolute trust in the God of Abraham who had no name or image. We learn another important perspective of inheritance.  If we want to be successful and inherit what God has in store for us, we must be persistent in prayer.  Prayer is an expression of our dependence on God’s grace and guidance.  Pray fervently and ask God to open the closed doors before us. If anything is stopping God’s blessings on us, the strongest weapon is prayer.  

Innovative Genesis 24:56 

The servant was pleased that everything went well for him.  Laban and his family agreed to send Rebecca with him to be the wife of Isaac. The servant and those with him ate heartily and rested that night.  In the morning he wanted to leave; but Rebecca’s family wanted him to stay for about ten days before leaving. The servant was prudent. He disagreed with them and insisted that he leave right away because God had blessed his journey. The servant knew exactly what he must do. He knew that he must not delay now.  The Lord calls us to be innovative and prudent in all our work. Today let us ask God’s grace to be excellent in all we do. That we excel others in the work God has given us. May God bless us that we follow the perspectives of our inheritance by holding on to integrity, intercession and innovation.  Amen!
